Changes made in South Australia’s General Skilled Migration

The Immigration to South Australia has brought about some major changes in its General Skilled Migration (GSM) state nomination policies.

As the newly Regional Work Skilled (Subclass 491) visa has come into force from 16th November 2019, South Australia has revised its State Nominated Occupation list along with other criteria’s of state nomination.

There were not made any significant changes in the “Special Conditions Apply” category. Moving further, the occupations that were listed under the “Special Conditions Apply” remained as it is before closing of Subclass 489 visas applications.

The upcoming changes for South Australia state nomination are summarized as follows:

  • According to the Department of Home Affairs, the minimum required immigration points score has been raised up for some of the occupations and categories. From now onwards, to be eligible for state nomination, some of the South Australian Occupation will require at least 75 or 85 immigration points. Although, to those candidates who are international graduates and having work experience for the previous 12 months, they still require a minimum of 65 points to qualify. In addition to this, 65 immigration points are also necessary for most trade occupations. New Australian immigration point system was introuduced on 16th November 2019. 
  • As there are limited visa places that are considered for the Subclass 190 visa, thus there will be further introduced the additional eligibility requirements. Now, applicants are needed an overall 90 immigration points to be eligible for these visa places. Moreover, under the chain migration category, 75 points are needed to qualify.
  • There is a 10% increased in the application fee for all state nomination applications for South Australia. The new application fee will be applied in all visa applications that are submitted on or after 4th December 2019.

The Government of South Australia has also confirmed that there will be no more additions to be introduced for the State Nominated Occupation list when the system initiates to accept applications.

Desirable candidates are required to note that South Australia is now accepting state nomination applications for the visa category 190 visa Australia and newly Subclass 491.
