🇨🇦 Sponsor Eligibility Requirements for Canada Spouse Visa
✅ 1. Status in Canada:
Your sponsor must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident in Canada.
✅ 2 Age Requirement:
Your sponsor must be at least 18 years old at the time of sponsoring for a spouse visa application.
✅ 3. Financial Responsibility
Your sponsor must demonstrate the ability to support your spouse/partner financially for 3 years from the day they become a permanent resident.
✅ 4. No Criminal Convictions
Your sponsor may not be eligible if he/she were convicted of a violent or sexual offence and committed an offence against a family member (depending on the case and time passed)
✅ 5. No Prior Sponsorship Defaults:
Your sponsor can't sponsor if she previously sponsored a spouse or partner and did not meet the financial obligations within the 3-year sponsorship period from a prior spousal sponsorship or is in default of a court-ordered support payment.
✅ 6. Not Bankrupt:
Your sponsor from Canada must not be in undischarged bankruptcy (unless discharged and financially stable)
✅ 7. Not Under a Removal Order
If you're a permanent resident, you must not be under a removal order.
✅ 8. Proof of Relationship
You must prove the relationship is genuine:
✔️ Marriage certificate
✔️ Photos, messages, and travel together
✔️ Joint documents (leases, finances, children, etc.)
Important Notes ✍️
🔸 There is no minimum income requirement for sponsoring a spouse (except in cases involving dependents with children).
🔸 Quebec residents have additional provincial requirements and must sign an undertaking with Quebec.
