IRCC processing time is an approximation of new applications that have been submitted by the day of processing. Processing commences when an application is received up to the point of a final decision being made. The timeframes may be different based on the complexity of the case, review of the documents, and the promptness of the applicants.
Two methods of calculation are used in the department. Times of historical processing of the 80 percent of applications completed are indicated and updated weekly. Projected estimates employ the existing stocks and anticipated monthly determinations; however, only limited permanent residence and citizenship schemes are enforced.
Service standards are internal objectives of IRCC to process the majority of applications within a specified time. Nevertheless, only about 20 per cent of cases can surpass these targets because of their complexity, and not every type of application has service standards.
