Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program Report 2018

The province of Ontario issued 6,850 nominations for Canadian permanent residence in 2018 with almost half going to candidates in the federal Express Entry System as per the new report of Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program. The program allows Ontario to nominate a set number of economic immigration candidates for Canada Permanent Residence.

The latest report published on February 22 states that 6,850 nominations were allotted in 2018 out of which 13, 571 were accompanying spouses and dependents.

Express Entry Nominations Report

Nearly 50 percent of the nominations issued in 2018 went to candidates in the Government of Canada’s Express Entry System which manages the pool of candidates for three of the country’s main federal economic immigration categories.

The Ontario Immigration Nominee Program three immigration streams are aligned with the Express Entry System- Human Capital Priorities, French Speaking Skilled Worker and Skilled Trades.

In 2018, Human Capital Priorities Stream was the most active of the three categories that gave 2,190 nominations. Another 648 nominations were issued through the Skilled Trades and 287 were issued through the French Speaking skilled worker stream.

In order to be considered for any of Ontario’s Express Entry streams, eligible applicants must submit an Express Entry profile.

A high number of tech nominations was given to the candidates with work experience or job-offer in technology-related occupations. The occupations invited include software engineers and designers, computer programmers, interactive media developers, IT systems analysts and technology consultants etc.

The Ontario nomination came from 147 countries in which Candidates born in India received the highest number of invitations than any other country. A total of 2,651 of the 6,850 nominations issued by Ontario went to immigration candidates who were born in India or nearly 39 percent of total nominations.

Only 36 percent of nominees had a job offer in Ontario prior to being nominated by the province. The OINP’s three Express Entry aligned streams do not list a job offer among their eligibility requirements.

However, Ontario is yet to receive the 2019 nomination allocation from the federal government. This, however, has not prevented the OINP from issuing invitations. The recent Human Capital Priorities Stream solely invited 1,493 invitations held on January 14.
