What's the new policy for Canada Student Visa?

Yogesh shukla

It has been shown that students are now factoring in visa requirements, changes in government policy, and costs before choosing a university.

Now, students feel that obtaining a Canadian study permit is too complicated, with many fearing it is even impossible. According to professionals, this fear will cause students to seek tuition elsewhere or abandon their plans to study abroad altogether.

What Is a Study Visa?

To understand why this report is significant, we first need to understand international travel. When a student wants to come to Canada from another country to study, it's much more than buying a plane ticket. International students must receive special permission from the Canadian government. That official permission is known as a study permit or, more commonly, a study visa.

To get one of these visas, students must submit extensive paperwork, pay various fees, and provide their bank account information to demonstrate they have sufficient funds to support themselves. If the government decides "no," then a student can't come to Canada.

Why Are Students So Nervous?

The report was composed of results from 5,800+ respondents from 118 countries. These results clearly indicated that the students are treating international colleges more like a business transaction. They do not wish to waste their time and money by making the wrong decision. College in another country is costly, and families want to feel confident in their choice before spending money.

Here is what the report found:

The new research also revealed that students are considering more than just how great the schools are and how beautiful the campuses are. Students are looking at the student visa process beforehand. They want to see if they will even be let into Canada before getting overly excited about a particular university.

Students are comparing choices across countries by simultaneously applying to two or three of them. In this way, if they get rejected by Canada, they have another option ready. The visa fees in Canada are extensive, but recently, they have increased the required funds in a student's bank account in order to be admitted into the country. This makes things considerably more expensive and will make it considerably more difficult for students and their families. Many of the students now believe that Canada is saying "no" to students, and as a result of this rumour, fear seeking admission in the first place.

Canada Is Still an Amazing Place to Study

Even though Canada is facing this new challenge, it's still a remarkable place to study for international students. Canada has been a top international destination for quite some time because of its great schools and culturally diverse environment. It is considered a very safe and happy country.

One of the main reasons students are still attracted to studying in Canada is the possibility of post-study work and immigration. The Post-Graduation Work Permit program is a unique opportunity for students, which will allow them to stay and work in Canada after completing their studies.

This experience helps students to try to achieve permanent residency in Canada. Other countries don't offer such ease of staying and working after completing studies, which puts Canada in an excellent position relative to other options.

How Institutions Can Help

The report states that Canadian universities and colleges have an obligation to do more to ensure the security of their international students, or risk losing students to other countries. According to professionals, universities should focus on doing three things:

  • Institutions need to provide students with an adequate update regarding recent visa rule changes.

  • Schools need to ensure that students and their families are provided with actual expense figures so their accounts are properly balanced.

  • Schools need to guide students on how to obtain a work permit safely upon graduation so they can begin working right after their education.

Ultimately, the report demonstrates how open and honest communication from schools and governments helps ensure that students feel secure when choosing Canada for their education. People are more willing to try if they understand the rules.
