Update on Canada Visitor Visa for Indian in Feb 2026

Yogesh shukla

Canada remains among the most popular travel destinations among Indian passport holders, be it in the form of tourism or even as a short-term stay. New Rules have been introduced due to the high demand for the Visa from India.

Current Processing Time for Indian Applicants

According to the most updated figures released by IRCC, visitor visa applications lodged in India are taking an average of 83 days to be processed. This is an improvement on the previous schedules that had extended to more than three months, and these gave some relief to travellers who had been experiencing long waiting times.

Nevertheless, this is not a fixed deadline but an estimate of the schedule followed by the applicants. Real-life processing times can vary based on the number of applications, the complexity of the case and the completeness of the documentation presented. Some delays may be experienced by those who apply during high travel seasons or who have additional verification criteria.

What the Processing Timeline Covers

The mentioned processing time occurs when IRCC has received a full application. It does not include the time spent scheduling and attending biometric appointments. It does not account for delays caused by missing papers or requests for more information from visa authorities.

It is therefore advisable that applicants allow additional time beyond the 83-day estimate, especially when making biometrics appointments at Visa Application Centres (VACs) in India.

Who Needs a Canadian Visitor Visa?

Indian citizens must obtain a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) to travel to Canada. Indian passport holders cannot travel using an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA), but they are required to travel with a visa.

Board a flight to Canada, or attempt entry at a Canadian port of entry. An authentic visitor visa is required in this case. This is applicable to the travellers who visit Canada either on leisure, a visit to family or on short-term business operations that do not entail entering the Canadian labour market.

Visa Validity and Length of Stay

Canadian visitor visas are available in either single-entry or multiple-entry forms. Most visas are issued for a maximum of 10 years or until the passport expires, whichever is earlier.

Although the visa validity is long, each stay is normally limited to six months, unless otherwise indicated by a border officer. Canadian immigration officials at the point of entry decide on the length of stay.

Fees and Basic Requirements

In order to apply for a Canadian visitor visa, an applicant has to pay a standard visa processing fee of about CAD 100 and other biometric fees. The applicants should also have a valid passport, which must last as long as they want to travel.

The supporting documents are usually the evidence of financial ability, travel plans, evidence of relation with India (employment or family ties), and a definite description of the purpose of travel. Well-documented intention to return to India goes a long way towards enhanced chances of approval.

Importance of Applying Early

Considering the present-day processing schedule, the experts advise that the Indian travellers should request a visitor visa at least three to four months before the planned date of travelling. This buffer will give time to biometrics, examine documents and possible follow-up requests by IRCC.

During the holiday and summer seasons, when the number of applications increases, delays will be more frequent. Early and complete application filing may prevent the inconveniences of travel arrangements.

Common Reasons for Delays

There are various reasons why the processing times may exceed the average estimate. These are half-finished applications and irregular travel history. Refusals or lengthy reviews may also occur when the applicant does not provide clear documentation or provides misleading information.

Planning for a Smooth Experience

Although the current reduction in processing times is promising. Indian passport holders should be realistic about their travel plans to Canada. It is important to plan, apply in advance and leave all the paperwork well to obtain a visitor visa without unjustifiable stress.

As Canada keeps on receiving millions of visitors each year, keeping up with visa processes and visa schedules is capable of making Indian travellers turn their travel plans into a successful trip.
