Employee benefits in Oman

Oman is one such country in the world that is known for its mandatory employment benefits. From social security contributions, annual paid leaves, working hours, to overtime pay, below are some of the benefits for those who work in Oman.

Social security contributions

With a social security rate of 17.5%, the employee has to contribute only 7%, while the rest 10.7% will be contributed by the employer. The Omani government provides social security in the form of old-age benefits, pensions, disability relief, and even family support in some cases. This is not it; the employers in Oman also pay 1% of the employees’ salary for their insurance against work-related injuries.

2. Paid leaves

The best part about working in Oman is that you will be eligible for a minimum of 30 days of paid leave every year. Therefore, those who have completed 6 months of continuous employment in Oman are eligible for all the annual paid leaves. In case someone is not able to consume all the annual paid leaves, then the same will be carried over to the next year. Though there is a cap on how many leaves can be transferred to next year.

3. 40 hours per week

The standard working hours for those working in Oman are 8 hours per day or 40 hours a week. Unlike India, Friday is the official weekly off across Oman. Besides having minimum working hours, employees can work for a maximum of 12 hours a day. This includes overtime hours as well.

With most of the population being Muslim in Oman, the working hours across the country during Ramadan are reduced to 6 hours per day or 30 hours per week.

4. You will get paid for overtime.

Did you know that in Oman, employees who clock in overtime hours will be paid? Not only this, if you have worked overtime between 5 am-9 pm, then the minimum rate at which you will be paid will be 25% over your regular salary. On the other hand, if you work between 9 pm and 5 am, the payment will be 75% more than your regular pay grade. However, if you are between 15 and 17 years of age, you are not allowed to work overtime in Oman.

5. Paid maternity leave

Females working in Oman are eligible for paid maternity leave of 98 days. In Oman, there is no limit on the number of times a woman employee can take maternity leave.
