Canada has made significant changes to its Express Entryimmigration system, which is great news for applicants from India. The government is now holding special category-based draws in addition to the regular draws. This is to regulate the demands of the labour market in Canada. This change will help in the infrastructural and economic growth of the country. 

Instead of only selecting candidates with the highest Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores, Canada can now invite people with skills that are in high demand — even if their overall score is not very high.

For many skilled professionals in India, this creates a better chance of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian Permanent Residency.

On March 25, 2025, Canada removed Comprehensive Ranking System points for job offers. Also, the candidates who had the job offer were prioritized, but not having the job offer is not mandatory. You can apply and get a PR in Canada if you have strong skills, language ability, and education.

Eligibility Checklist for Category Membership

The Authorities have given eligibility criteria to apply for the 1250 invitations to make the PR process consistent for the applicants. 

• Not be a member of the group mentioned in section 2(d) of the Express Entry Instructions.
   

• Have at least 6 continuous months of full-time work (or equivalent part-time) in the last 3 years before the category was created.
   

• The work must be in one of the occupations listed in the table in this section.
   

• During that work, you must have:
   

  • Performed the actions described in the lead statement for that occupation (as per the NOC).
     

  • Performed a substantial number of the main duties listed in the NOC for that occupation, including all essential duties.
     

Important Note:

• You are not eligible if your 6 months of work experience were not completed within the 3 years before the officer receives your permanent residence application.
