What is Invitation To Apply in Express Entry?

An Invitation To Apply or ITA, as it is known as abbreviately, is an offer to apply for Permanent Resident Visa to Canada officially forwarded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), at the time when a candidate is in the Express Entry Pool.

It is a selection proclamation issued when IRCC conducts rounds of invitations known as Express Entry Draws.

An ITA shall not be confused with a confirmation of admission of the candidate in Canada as a Permanent Resident. In fact, it is mere ‘invite’ to the candidate with an expiry period of 90 days. If the candidate fails to apply for Permanent Resident (PR) visa within the stipulated time, then the issued ITA shall deemed to be null and void.

How to Decline the Invitation To Apply?

Though, there is no formal way of accepting an Invitation To Apply, you have a way to decline it. Candidates who elect to decline an Invitation to Apply will be sent back to the Express Entry pool with the same profile, to be considered in future rounds of invitations, provided they still meet the minimum benchmark of criteria of any of the three federal economic immigration programs.

There is, however, no assurance that the candidate will be receiving another Invitation to Apply at a later rounds of invites. Declining an invitation, never the less, is not at all associated with any negative consequence on whether or not candidate will be invited to apply at a future date at some future rounds of invites.
