The partnership defined by the Immigration authority of New Zealand states that, people of the opposite or same sex who are living together in a genuine and stable relationship in any of the following categories:

  • A legal marriage
  • A civil union
  • A de facto relationship

When a visa based on your partnership is applied with a New Zealand visa holder or New Zealand citizen, then that person is called supporting partner.

What are the eligibility criteria for granting a Partnership visa?

  • You must have been living together in a genuine and stable relationship with your partner for 12 months or more
  • You should have a proper support of your application from your partner
  • If your partner’s New Zealand resident status is based on their Australian residence status, your partner must live in New Zealand.

Is there any time period to stay in New Zealand with this visa?

You can stay for indefinite period of time.

What all can you do with this visa?

This visa allows you to:

  • Live, work, and study in New Zealand for unrestricted period of time
  • You can bring dependent children
  • You can be granted a permanent Resident visa provided you and your partner are living together outside of New Zealand for 5 years or more.

After getting your resident visa, you can apply for a permanent resident visa.
