The University of New South Wales is providing extra scholarships to attract Indian students. The university is also planning to expand the exchange programs for students. The UNSW is giving 61 scholarships to Indian Students under ‘Future of Change’ in 2018 as compared to 11 scholarships which were offered in 2017.
Hindu quotes, Future of Change is a scholarship that offers a tuition fee waiver of $5,000 for one year to 50 postgraduate students, fee waiver of $10,000 per year to 10 students and one student is offered complete tuition fee waiver.
In order to get selected for the scholarship, students are required to make a 2-minute digital video testimonial on how the scholarship will assist them in realising their aspirations. They must also have a good academic score.
UNSW Australia India Country-Director Amit Das Gupta says that the Australian government sees Indian students as an investment. The university has 6,000 overseas students currently. Indian students are the second largest in number studying in UNSW after Chinese students.
There are approximately more than 350 Indian students as of now; the number may go up because of ‘UNSW India Engagement’ program.
The Government of Australia has also introduced another initiative called the ‘New Colombo Plan’ –a three week program that offers overseas students in Australia, an opportunity to spend a couple of weeks in the Asia Pacific region. This program is highly interesting Australian students as it attracts the prospects of working with some of the top firms.
