The province of Quebec has received more than 91,000 expressions of interest through Quebec's online Arrima portal since it opened last September. This portal was introduced on September 18, 2018, to manage profiles submitted to the Quebec Skilled Worker Program after it was switched to an Expression of Interest (EOI) system.
An EOI system requires interested candidates to create a profile that is then entered into the bank of candidates for the Quebec Skilled Worker Program. The profile mentions the key requirements like education, work experience, proficiency in the French language etc. The selected candidates are issued a Quebec Selection Certificate.
Quebec’s CAQ Immigration Minister, Simon Jolin said that the province has to first deal with the backlog of around 18,000 applications that were submitted under the old immigration system of the first-come, first-served model that is replaced by the EOI system.
The new immigration system for Quebec Skilled Worker Program is better suited to address Quebec’s labour needs because it allows the immigration department to identify and select applicants whose work experiences match the labour requirement of Quebec.
The abolishment of backlog would help cut the application processing time for a CSQ from 36 months to six months. The Quebec news agency TVA reports that 91,307 profiles have been submitted to the Quebec Skilled Worker Program through the Arrima portal since it opened on September 18, 2018
Out of submitted profiles, 5,260 candidates have applied in administration, 2,160 listed their occupations in nursing and another 720 applied under electrical engineers.
The immigration to Quebec is meant to ensure that newcomers are better-integrated with the job opportunities available in the province.
