Opened Gates For STEM Graduates Can File Through Subclass 190

Australia state sponsor visa Subclass 190 has opened gates for the immigration purpose to the workers who are highly skilled as well as STEM Graduates.

Now, you may ask, who are STEM Graduates?

STEM Graduates refers to those members of the Australian population with a past secondary qualification at the level of certificate III or above in any of the following fields of education:

  • Natural and Physical Sciences (NPS)
  • Information Technology (IT)
  • Engineering and Related Technologies (ERT)
  • Agriculture, Environment and Related Studies (AERS)
  • Mathematical Sciences

It is also known as S- SCIENCE, T- TECHNOLOGY, E- ENGINEERING, and M- MATHEMATICS which constitutes the word ‘STEM’.

STEM fields highly contribute to the national economic growth of Australia. As found by the employers of these important growth industries, as well as more general professions, that the employees with STEM qualifications are highly successful at their jobs. However, the employers are facing difficulties in finding suitable candidate from the local labor market.

The recent survey of Deloitte Access commissioned by the Office of the Chief Scientist says that out of 356 employers, 144 reported difficulty in filling the technician and trade worker roles, and 135 of 429 had difficulty recruiting STEM graduates. Also, out of 451 employers, 241 expected the need to increase STEM professionals in next five to ten years.

This trend is not unique to Australia and most modern economies of the world are too working to strengthen the technological and innovational advantages of the STEM education.

The top six industries where the STEM graduates go to work are:

  • 25 percent graduates are in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services

  • 6 percent graduates in Health Care and Social Assistance
  • 5 percent graduates in Financial and Insurance Services

(As told by the Office of the Chief Scientist)

Skilled Nominated (Subclass 190) visa is one of the route open to the skilled workers from the STEM profession who are highly skilled and qualified and nominated by an Australian State/Territory to live and work in Australia as a permanent resident.
