Occupation Ceilings declared for Australia Immigration – Increased ceilings in Pro-rata occupation for PR Australia

The occupation ceilings list for the year 2017-2018 has been declared by the immigration authority of Australia. There is a noticeable increase in the occupation ceiling for the pro rata occupations which enable the professionals of higher ceilings for occupations like accountants, engineers in mechanical and software fields etc.

The increased ceilings in the Pro Rata Occupations are as follow:

  • Accountants: 4785
  • Software and Applications Programmers: 6202
  • Software and Applications Programmers: 2178
  • ICT Business and Systems Analysts: 1574

This Increase may result in decrease of point requirement.

A few occupations like Computer Network Professionals (1318) and Auditing professionals, Company Secretaries and Corporate Treasurers (1327) have decreased which may result in increase of point requirements.

Whereas, the ceilings for the Electronics engineers (1000) and other Engineering Engineers (1000) did not change.


The non-pro-rata occupations ceilings has some major decrease which may result in increased point requirements. Some of these occupations might be able to make presence in pro rata list in 2017-18:

  • Bricklayers and Stonemasons: 1271
  • Other Medical Practitioners: 1000
  • Metal Fitters and Machinists: 5330
  • Solicitors: 4161
  • Engineering Managers: 1155
  • Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Mechanics: 1427
  • Social Workers: 1562
  • Special Education Teachers: 1000
  • Carpenters and Joiners: 6968
  • Medical Laboratory Scientists: 1487
  • Chefs: 2675
  • Electronics Trades Workers: 1878
