New immigration updates under the Nova Scotia Immigrant Nominee Program

The province of Nova Scotia has uncovered a new three-year pilot stream for immigration candidates having an eligible job offer in one of the most in-demand intermediate-skilled occupations. The Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) said professions targeted by the new Occupation in Demand Steam are "in high labour market demand” in the province.

The occupations mentioned on the list are subject to change as per the labour requirements in the province.

The occupation in-demand stream is currently open to eligible candidates having a full-time permanent job offer from a Nova Scotia employer in two specific occupations categorized as Skill Level C under Canada’s National Occupational Classification (NOC).

The two occupations are:

  • NOC 3413- Nurses aides, orderlies, and patient service associates
  • NOC 7511- Transport Truck drivers

Additionally, the applicants must meet the following requirements in order to be eligible:

  • Having at least one year of work experience related to the job
  • Be 21 to 55 years old
  • High degree school diploma holder
  • Have the appropriate training, skills and/or accreditation for the job
  • Prove language ability equal to the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 4 through official language test results
  • Must have enough financial resources to successfully settle in Nova Scotia

The work experience and transferable skills will be verified via letters of reference from employers and supporting employment documents. The applicants who are approved through this stream would receive a provincial nomination to apply for Canadian Permanent Residence.

The Nova Scotia Nominee Program with the introduction of new occupation in demand stream pilot brings the number of immigration pathways to eight.

"We are constantly evaluating our programs to see how we can better respond to what the province needs," said Nova Scotia Immigration Minister, Lena Metlege Diab.

Important updates under existing NSNP Entrepreneur Stream

The Nova Scotia PNP also introduced updates to its Entrepreneur and International Graduate Entrepreneur Streams.

Existing business owners will be eligible under the Entrepreneur Stream and will be able to include operating expenses towards the required minimum investment. Also, the ownership requirements for international graduates looking to start a business will change from 100 percent to one third.

"The change will allow for collaboration with other entrepreneurs and give recent international graduates more flexibility in achieving entrepreneurship and immigration, the NSNP said in a news release.

For further information related to Nova Scotia Immigrant Nominee Program and different PR programs, it is suggested to fill the Canada Immigration Assessment Form to arrange a callback from one of the visas and immigration experts.
