India is the topmost migrant source for Australia on a permanent basis. As per the recent statistics report, there were 33,310 migrants from India during the previous year ending June 2018. There was 20.5 percent decline in the Indian numbers coming to Australia but still, Indians were the largest constituency. Australian Government recently announced the 15 percent reduction on immigration cap to 1.60 lakh for the year 2019-20. The migrants under non-IT-Sector are likely to benefit under regional visas migration because of various job options available to them in the regional areas whereas, migrants applying for IT sector occupations will focus on metropolitan areas.

The new regional visas will be attractive to the applicants applying under agriculture, hospitality and tourism, child-care, aged-care, medical practitioners, construction, machinery maintenance, and mining. A release from the Australian PR states that the holders of new regional visas will be able to access permanent residency if they agree to live and work in regional areas for three years. The total number of places allocated for the new regional visas are 23,000 seats out of the total cap of 1.6 lakh.

The Australian government explains that the new regional provisional visa will be for skilled migrants and dependent family members. Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa will be for those sponsored by an employer. The second class is Skilled Work Regional Provisional Visa where applicants with state/territory nomination are eligible to apply. These visas will be granted for a period up to five years and the current regional visas offer tenure up to four years.

Wider occupations will be available under these visa categories and priority processing will also be applicable.
