Canadian Government Waived Off Fee For Minors Looking to Apply for Canadian Citizenship

To make this attractive for immigrants, the fee of minors applying under subsection 5(1) of Citizenship act has been bargained. On 19th of June, 2017, Bill C-6 after getting royal assent immediately removed the requirement of grant of Citizenship to Minors under Subsection 5(1). This amendment in the citizenship act has now made it easier for minors to apply for citizenship independently, on their own.

Ahmed Hussen, the Minister of Immigration, Canada made this announcement to reduce the fee for minors from $530 to $100 only, which is equivalent to the fee schedule of minors applying under Subsection 5(2) of the citizenship act.

This burns down the disparity which was earlier there. Now, all the minors have to pay a standard fee of $100 no matter if they are having Canadian parents, or permanent resident parent or applying on their own.

Those candidates who have already paid the fee amount of $530 on and after 19th of June, 2017, will get reimbursements of the difference amount of $430. IRCC is going to get in touch with such candidates on their own.

The Canadian immigration department is going to engage its provinces and territories, childcare agencies, immigration service provider organizations and other stakeholders to promote awareness of this change.
