Nearly 100,000 applications approved for the permanent residency to Canada

Express Entry was introduced in 2015 and since then the Express Entry Immigration system has been continuing to grow. It has approved approximately 100,000 new applications for Canadian permanent residence in 2017. Express Entry is Canada’s prime system for managing immigration applications for skilled workers.

According to the 2017 end report of Express Entry, nearly 100,000 new applications for Canadian permanent residency were approved. This accounted for one-third of total immigration to Canada in the year 2017.

Through Express Entry system, nearly 110,000 applications were submitted out of which 96,182 applications were approved. 65,401 applicants entered Canada as a permanent resident. A positive increase in the immigration number has been seen, where in 2016 only 40,000 applications were approved through Express Entry.

Key Report Highlights:

  • In 2017, the immigration applications under Express Entry were processed within 4 months or less.
  • 2 out of 3 new immigrants are headed to Ontario
  • The highest number of ITAs were received to tech-related occupations in 2017
  • Indian citizens received the highest number of ITAs in 2017

On the other hand, The Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program also saw a striking increase in 2017. The numbers of ITAs issued in 2016 were 8,332 whereas it rose to 41,364 in 2017.
