Australia’s Immigration intake reached a new record with more than 115,000 permanent arrivals in just one month. The Australian Bureau of Statistics released new immigration figures recently. The overseas arrivals data report says that there are around 115, 100 new people who have already declared Australia as their new home in February. The annual immigration reached 844,800.
The number of new immigrants coming to Australia this year was 11.4 percent higher than the previous year. Though, in March, Mr. Scott Morrison, Prime Minister of Australia slashed the immigration intake rate from 190,000 to 160,000. Australia’s net annual immigration level has climbed 200,000 a year since 2012.
Despite high immigration levels, Australian economists say that strong population growth is good for the economy. "The new migrants boost employment in the short-term but provide the strongest contribution to economic output the longer that they are in their positions," he said.
Australia is becoming a preferred destination for more number of people, if not permanently then at least for longer than a year. Well, the increasing number of migrants coming to Australia strongly reflects that the country is a great place to live and work in.
In the month of February, 40,749 Australians moved overseas either permanently or for more than a year.
