Australia Immigration: Major changes including hike in visa application announced for 2017-18

The commonwealth budget was introduced in the Australia parliament and in immigration major visa applicants affective changes were announced. These changes include some fee to be paid by Australian Employer, Visa fee hike and more details on temporary parent visa to apply from November 2017.

Let’s have glimpse on each change:

Training Levy for Employers Sponsoring Staff

To raise the funds for local workers, the Australian employers have to pay a training levy fee for each foreign worker and these amount to be used towards the Skilling Australians Fund. The funds collected by this will be used for training of the Australian local workers to develop their skills. This fee will become applicable from March 2018.

The amount will totally depend on the size of the business, the companies having their turnover more than $10 million will pay more. Their payments will apply to both the Temporary Skills Shortages (TSS) visa and permanent employer sponsored visas (ENS and RSMS).

The training levies will be:

Large Business








Temporary Sponsored Parent Visas

In November 2017, new parent visas will be introduced and can only be sponsored by an Australian citizen or permanent resident. The new visa will be valid for 3 years or 5 years. There may be no need to meet with balance of the family test. The fee has been decided for 3 years it will be $5,000 and $10,000 for visa of 5 years, the visa can be renewed but a parent can maximum stay in Australia for 10 years. The government has increased the quota for the new visa to 15,000 for each category.


Visa Application Charge increases

The visa application fee will be hike and the new prices apply from July 1, 2017. Below is the new application fee list of common visa types.
