Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison says that Australian immigration levels are expected to be at previous year’s same level or just a little over 160,000 against the planning level of 190,000. He continues that immigration level will remain at last year’s level that was nearly 28,000 less than the planning level of 190,000. Mr. Morrison told reporters, “They used to be a bit higher than that in terms of what the permanent intake had been a few years ago and that has come down somewhat over the last year or so. And I expect it to remain at those levels.” This remark was made by The PM in response to the NSW Premier Gladys Berejeklian's call to reduce the state’s overseas migration intake to John Howard levels. The immigration levels of the previous year drop off to 163,000- lowest since 2007-08 under John Howard.
Australia’s annual immigration planning levels have been constant at 190, 000 since 2011. The levels have been same since the most of the time until 2016-17 when the intake was just over 183,000. Last year, there was decline of over 21,000 permanent resident’s visa issued as compared to the previous year. In 2016-17, the skill migration visa programs saw decline of over 12,000 and family stream visas were cut by over 15 percent.
According to the Australian immigration department, the invites issued to skilled independent visa applications within the skilled stream fell by 20 percent in the rest of the current financial year.
Therefore, with immigration at the same previous levels, you have good chances of applying for permanent residency of Australia. There are different PR programs to select for your Australia PR, you may select from Australia Skilled Immigration Program, Australia Family Sponsorship etc.
