Australia Favours Proficient English Speakers for Skilled Migration

With the onset of new Australian point system, the immigration department will now favour proficient English speakers for skilled migration programs, as said by the Home Secretary Priti Patel. The candidates who are applying for skilled migration programs having high immigration points will be favoured from now onwards.

English language proficiency is one of the important factors responsible for skilled migration along with other factors. A point based system is followed to invite migrants where an applicant must score at least 65 immigration points out of 100 on Australia point assessment grid.

Calculate the total immigration score

The Australian Immigration department awards 20 points for skilled migrants having “superior” English-based on scoring an eight or more in language assessment test IELTS or 79 points and above in PTE etc. Also, 10 points are awarded if an applicant scores IELTS 7 bands in each module of reading, writing, listening, and speaking or PTE 65 points in each module of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Those with competent English score get no additional points.
