Province unveils long-awaited details of Express Entry-linked stream
The province of Alberta unveiled two new immigration streams on Thursday, including its anticipated Express Entry-linked stream.
Both the projected streams were expected in January to come out, but the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program delayed their introduction until now.
With the onset of Express Entry stream, Alberta will now be able to invite applicants in the federal Express Entry pool to apply for provincial nomination.
AINP on announcing Express Entry stream said, “Candidates who have demonstrated strong ties to Alberta and who can help support the government’s economic development and diversification priorities will be invited to apply.”
The Express Entry system predominantly has three main economic immigration classes- the Federal Skilled Worker class, the federal skilled trade class and the Canadian Experience class.
The province of Alberta will automatically consider profiles in the federal Express Entry pool. The applicants who are of interest to Alberta will be directly contacted to apply for the AINP Express Entry stream. However, the selection criteria is still unknown, AINP states that it will seek candidates who demonstrates strong ties to Alberta and can support the economic development of the province. The applicants must demonstrate their interest to apply in their Express Entry profile to be able to apply for AINP.
A candidate who receives a nomination from the province will be entitled to receive 600 additional points under Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) and will be virtually guaranteed Invitation to apply (ITA) for Canadian Permanent Residence.
Alberta Opportunity Stream
Along with the Express Entry stream, Alberta will also accept candidates applying under the Self-Employed Farmer stream and its new Alberta Opportunity stream (AOS).
AOS is outside Express Entry stream, providing a pathway to permanent residence for candidates working in Alberta.
The applicants now have an option to apply without employer support with the coming up of new AOS.
AOS replaces Alberta’s Employer- driven stream and Strategic Recruitment Stream; both the streams will accept applications for processing post-marked before June 14, 2018.
To be able to apply for AOS, the applicant must be currently working in Alberta (full-time) in an eligible occupation and fulfil the minimum selection criteria for residency and employment status, occupation, language, education, work experience, and income level.
The changes are done to attract workers in Alberta who want to become permanent residents. The process has been simplified resulting in less waiting time and fair access to all workers who want to come and settle in the province of Alberta.
The number of applications allotted to AINP by the federal government of Canada is 5,600 nominations for the year 2018. Out of which, 2,777 nominations have been issued so far in 2018.
