What is an EU Blue Card and What are the Eligibility Criteria to Apply for the EU Blue Card ?

EU Blue card is a residency permit which allows the highly skilled individuals from the non EU countries to receive a residence title for the purpose of employment. The individuals who have an academic or equivalent qualification and a definite minimum salary can apply for the EU Blue card.

The holder of EU Blue card can move freely within Europe except the member states Denmark, Ireland, and UK.

EU Blue card is issued for 4 years first time and if the employment duration is less than 4 years, an EU Blue card is issued for the duration of the employment contract and three months additional.

The eligibility requirements to apply for EU Blue card are as follows:

  1. You must be a third country citizen (Non EU country member)
  2. Your qualification must be equivalent to the Germany University
  3. A job offer or an employment contract with minimum salary of EUR 50.800 (excluding some occupations)

Additionally, the holder of an EU Blue card can get permanent residency if following criteria are met:

  1. You must be employed for more than 33 months as a highly qualified person
  2. You must prove that you have contributed to your current organization in an efficient manner
  3. If you have an adequate knowledge of German Level B1, your settlement permit is issued after 21 months
