Candidates who have their profile in the express entry pool will have an easy way out to receive an invitation to apply for provincial nomination without even trying thanks to specialized immigration streams in Ontario, Alberta and Nova Scotia. The above-mentioned provinces look out for the applicants under express entry pool who matches with their requirements like work experience in a specified occupation. Those selected are notified of the province interest and invited to apply for provincial nomination for permanent residence.
These immigration pathways are known as passive streams because applicants can only apply after being chosen through one of these searches.
Express Entry applicants who apply for and receive a provincial nomination are given 600 additional points towards their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score that enables an applicant to receive an invitation to apply from the Canadian government faster.

Nova Scotia province offers labor Market Stream under Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program. This stream is used to conduct occasional searches of the Express Entry pool for candidates having work experience in specified occupations facing labor shortages in the province.
There have been two draws conducted through this stream since its creation in August 2018 for early childhood educators and assistants and another on January 24 that focused financial auditors and accountants.
Alberta’s Express Entry Stream was incorporated last year. The province invited potential applicants who matched the province’s eligibility requirements. These include a CRS score at least 300 and the basic requirement of having a job offer letter and/or work experience in Alberta, a degree from a Canadian post-secondary institution and/or parent, child or sibling already living in Alberta may be prioritized for an NOI from the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP)
In the seven draws held last year through Alberta’s Express Entry Stream, Express Entry candidates selected had CRS score as low as 301.
Ontario province offers immigration programs through its three express entry linked streams; the Human Capital Priorities Stream has invited the most number of applicants in the year 2019 so far under Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program.
The stream issued 1,493 Notifications of Interest (NOI) in its last draw held on January 14 to Express Entry candidates with CRS scores ranging from 439 to 448.
Human Capital Priorities Stream searches are limited to Federal Skilled Worker Programs and Canadian Experience Class applicants who meet the provincial and federal eligibility requirements.
