New Immigration Stream For Physicians Opened In Nova Scotia

To invite general practitioners, family physicians and specialist physicians, the province of Nova Scotia has created new immigration stream-the physician stream. The stream is standalone stream for general practitioners and family physicians (NOC 3112) and specialist physician (NOC 3111).

The applicants will be requiring a Job offer letter approved by either Nova Scotia Health Authority or the Izaak Walton Killam Health Centre (IWK), based in Nova Scotia’s capital city, Halifax.

The main aim behind designing this steam for physicians is to reduce the paperwork. Now to evaluate and assess eligibility under this stream, NSNP (Nova Scotia Nomination Program) declared that credential assessment performed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia will be taken into considered.

#1 immigrant under this stream

Dr Jamie Tribo has named the first physician to be recruited to Nova Scotia under the new stream, in a recent news release.

Tribo, who is currently practising in United States, will be setting up family practice in Cape Breton region of Nova Scotia.

“We are looking forward to our move to Nova Scotia,” said Dr. Tribo. “Obtaining a medical license in another country means clearing a lot of hurdles and paperwork before even beginning on immigration requirements. This new immigration program has made the process much simpler and shorter for us, and our recruiter has been a big help along the way.”
