Manitoba Provincial Nominee Immigration Report For The Year 2018

Manitoba issued a record number of 5,307 invitations for Canadian permanent residence in 2018 with 98 percent going to skilled worker candidates.
Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) newly released report showed that 5,119 invitations went to candidates in the Skilled Worker in Manitoba and Skilled Worker Overseas Immigration Streams in 2018. The other remaining 88 nominations went to candidates in Manitoba’s Business Investor stream.
The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program allows participating provinces and territories to give invitations to set a number of economic immigration candidates for Canadian Permanent residence each year. The MPNP is Canada’s oldest provincial nominee program and marked its 20th year in operation in 2018 and has welcomed more than 130,000 immigrants to the province since its introduction. According to the province, 90 percent of immigrants are employed within their first year in Manitoba.
Of those nominated in 2018, 21 percent did not have a job offer in the province but had a family or community connection instead.
The MPNP immigration report 2018 is as follows:
- The Skilled Worker in Manitoba stream received 3,399 nominations or 65 percent
- The Skilled Worker Overseas stream received 1,720 nominations or 33 percent
- The business investor stream received 2 percent nominations
The MPNP confirmed to CIC News that 535 nominees were candidates having a valid Federal Express Entry profile which manages the pool of candidates for three of Canada's main economic immigration categories- the Federal Skilled Worker Program, The Federal Skilled Trade Program, and The Canadian Experience Class.
The selected candidates received an additional 600 points towards their overall Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score that further improves the immigration chances for applying for Canadian permanent residence.
To apply for manitoba PNP as a skilled worker, the prime step is to create and submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile with the province.
The MPNP said 26,443 skilled worker candidates submitted an Expression of Interest profile in 2018 and 7.950 Letters of Advice to Apply (LAA) were issued.
Some other findings are as follows:
- The Skilled Worker in Manitoba applications approved were 98%
- The Skilled Worker Overseas in Manitoba applications approved were 90%
- The applicants without a job offer letter or job offer letter in Manitoba was 21%
- India was the top country of citizenship for nominees
- Processing Time for Skilled Worker in Manitoba applications was 2.8 months
- Processing Time for Skilled Worker Overseas applications was 3 months
- Total number of nominees with a Manitoba post-secondary degree was 1,292
The highest number of nominations was from India giving 1,780 invitations or 34.2 percent of the 2018 total. This was slightly more than the previous year when 31 percent of nominations were received.
Citizens of China received 825 nominations or 15.8 percent of total nominations in 2018, an increase over 139 invitations in 2017.
Talking about occupations, immigration candidates with skilled work experience in the Sales and Service Sector led nominees with 1,885 nominations. This was followed by candidates with work experience in the business, finance and administration occupations, who received 728 nominations.
A total of 1,847 nominations were given to the candidates having work experience in occupation rates as Skill Level B under Canada's National Occupational Classification (NOC) and another 1,659 nominations went to candidates having work experience in Skill Level C.
Of the 5,119 skilled worker candidates who were nominated in 2018, 78 percent (4,101) had the job offer in Manitoba. The MPNP said this was an increase of 51.2 percent over 2017.
The MPNP also invited applicants who completed post-secondary studies in Manitoba that was as at 1,923.
The International Education Stream has three pathways- Career Employment Pathway, Graduate Internship Pathway, and the Student Entrepreneur Pathway.
