IRCC Focuses On Less Processing Times For Canada PR Applications

The changes have been made to improve the experience of permanent residency clients applying to immigrate to Canada as told by The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The Immigration to Canada is a life changing event and the department understands how frustrating it can be when application takes longer than expected.

Now, clients will have more accurate idea of how long processing of their immigration application may take for several permanent resident clients.

The immigration department will now give a clear idea about the processing time of the immigration application for several permanent resident business lines.

Until recently, IRCC began using improved method to estimate the processing times for some new permanent residence applications. The projected processing times tell the applicants how long the application processing takes under normal circumstances.

The immigration department will be able to better estimate the reasons behind the processing time that is based on several factors like number of current applications waiting to be processed and the volumes of admissions allowed each other under the multi-immigration level plans.

Over the last few years, IRCC has made significant progress in reducing processing times and inventories across many permanent resident categories. This has become possible because of the multi-year increase in immigration levels which allowed for advance planning along with taking controls in some categories.

Previously, the processing time for all permanent residence applications showed only 80 per cent of the applications processing time that are accurate for most of the applications processed. IRCC thus continues to move towards an integrated and modernized working environment to efficiently process the Canada PR applications. The immigration department is carefully monitoring processing time and will make any further changes to other visas if necessary.

The projected processing times will apply to the applications received on or after July 31, 2018 in the following visa categories:

  • Parents or Grandparents visa
  • Provincial Nominees (Non-Express Entry)
  • Skilled workers (Quebec)
  • Start-up visa
  • Humanitarian and Compassionate cases

Important Notice: the applicants who have already applied, withdrawing an application and re-applying will not result in faster processing times. Additionally, the application for Express Entry, Parents and Grandparents who withdraws their applications runs the risk of not receiving a subsequent invitation to apply from the Canadian government.
