The month of January 2019 saw the Canadian Government and provinces across the country to invite more than 40,000 potential applicants through the key economic immigration and family sponsorship programs.
The new economic immigration plan is set up by the Canadian Government to invite at least 331,000 new permanent residents in the year 2019 for skill migration and family sponsorship programs. Therefore, the first month of the year is a clear indication by the Canadian government that it has no trouble in achieving its goal of inviting one million immigrants by the end of 2021.
The three year economic immigration plan is set to rise for the year 2020 inviting 341,000 and for 2021 inviting 350,000- nearly one percent of Canada’s population.
The majority of these new migrants are expected through Canada’s various economic immigration programs namely Federal Express Entry System and Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program.

Canada’s Express Entry System is the most popular immigration program inviting skilled and qualified workers to come and settle in the country on permanent basis. This program got the biggest start in the month of January issuing 11,150 invitations to apply for Canada Permanent Residency.
The applicants were invited on the basis of highest Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Score. The factors that are responsible for nomination are age, education, work experience, language proficiency and adaptability factors.
In the previous year, the invitations issued were 89,800 to apply for permanent residence over the course of the year. Thus, given the high admission targets for 2019 and 2020 under three economic immigration programs managed by the Express Entry System, it is expected that a new record will be set this year.
The other program called as Provincial Nomination Program is also expected to invite migrants in huge numbers. The PNP allows applicants to come and work in the particular province on permanent basis. Nearly 5,000 immigration candidates were issued invitations to apply for a provincial nomination last month through PNPs namely British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
There was another big thing happened in January and that was the reopening of Canada’s Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) to new expressions of interest. IRCC has set a target of giving 27,000 expressions of interest for the PGP’s in this current year.
