Alberta Brings In New Updates To Minimum Income And Language Requirement For Alberta Opportunity Stream

Alberta revealed changes to the Opportunity Stream of the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP), with adjustments to future language requirements and a removal of the income requirement. Alberta has revealed two important immigration changes to its Alberta Opportunity Stream. The change is introduced to omit the minimum income requirement and an update to its minimum language requirements.

The removal of minimum income requirement will be applicable to all application submitted on or after June 14, 2018. Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS) began accepting applications on this same day.

The AOS is for the migrants who are already working in Alberta or International Graduates who have completed their studies in a recognized Alberta University.

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) said it will still look whether candidates are being paid the provincial minimum wage and whether the wage is accordance to their occupation as established in their labour market impact assessment or on the province’s website.

The migrants who get successful nominations already have jobs in Alberta that further helps them to support themselves and their families in Alberta.

The second change is done to the minimum language requirement for both candidates in skill level C or D listed on National Occupational Classification (NOC) and those working in an occupation with a NOC skill level rating 0, A or B.

The minimum language requirement for the candidates applying for AINP in NOC C or D jobs will remain at Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score 4 and will not exceed to CLB 5.

When Alberta Opportunity Stream was introduced in June, the AINP said the minimum language requirement would increase to CLB 5 beginning June 14, 2019. However, this is no longer to be implemented for NOC C or D job occupations.

For candidates working in occupations that are listed on NOC 0, A or B, the AINP said the minimum language requirement will remain at CLB 4 until January 1, 2020 will increase to CLB 5.

The Alberta changes will definitely help the migrants to apply to the program in a more easy way and continue to fill job shortages with overseas applicants.
