Can I Include Family Member in My Application?

Yes, you may include family members in your application. Australia welcomes skilled and qualified workers with an open arms and so do their family members.
When applying for an Australian visa, it is generally possible to include members of your family. When your application is granted, all included family members would receive visa.

However, you can only include following members in your visa application:

  • Your partner (spouse/De facto)
  • Your child/step-child or your partner’s child/step child

You must also show the documentary proof of their relationship to you.
The members mentioned in the application must be able to show that they meet health and character requirements. You can add your children to the application till any decision is made on your visa application. However, you cannot add any other member of the family unit to your application during that period.

What are the New Updates Related to the Inclusion of Family Members?

Australia keeps on updating their immigration policies:

  • Maximum age of children
Children under 18 years of age are considered members of the family unit by default. Children who are over 18 years of age may be considered to be included in the visa application provided they are financially dependent upon their parents and are not working full time.
Earlier, children were included in the visa application up to the age of 25 years which have been changed to 23 yearsthat means, children can only be included in visa applications if they are under 23 years old. To include a child who is over 23 years in your visa application, you need to prove that the child is unable to work due to ‘physical or mental limitations’.
  • Changes done under family unit
Only children and spouse/de-facto partner will now be considered as members of family unit to be included in a visa application. Earlier, it was possible to include other family members, such as siblings and dependent parents, will now be no longer accepted.
  • Including adult children in subsequent visa applications
Many migrants who comes to Australia on a temporary basis choose to apply for a subsequent visa to lengthen their stay in Australia. Now, as per the recent updates, a visa applicant’s previous status as a ‘member of the family unit’ will be eligible to apply for subsequent visas, even if they are no longer dependent.
