GSM Processing Times Updated By The Department Of Home Affairs In 2021
As per the Department of Home Affairs, the processing times for the General skilled migration visa have been increased in 2021. Under the General Skilled Migration Visas, there are three visa subcategories such as skilled independent visa subclass 189, skilled nominated visa subclass 190 and skilled work regional visa subclass 491.
Prior to the corona outbreak, the processing times for getting approval for any of the visas was less, however, after the wreaking havoc created by the pandemic, the processing times have taken a huge jump. The processing times depend upon the set migration levels and the priority occupations which are in high demand in Australia.

Skilled Independent Visa subclass 189
It is a permanent residence visa that doesn’t demand any nomination from an Australian state or territory. With the help of this visa, one can stay and work anywhere in Kangaroo land for an indefinite time period. As per the updated processing times, it will take around 6 months to process 75% of the applications and 17 months to process 90% of the applications.
Skilled Nominated Visa Subclass 190
It is also a PR Visa which requires you to get a nomination from an Australian state or territory. With the help of this visa, you can enjoy life anywhere in Australia; however, in order to reap this benefit, you need to stay in the nominated state or territory for a period of 2 years. As per the current processing times, it will take around 6 months to process 75% of the applications and 10 months to process 90% of the applications.
Skilled work regional (provisional) visa subclass 491
It is a provisional visa that awards you with the freedom to live and work in the designated regional areas of Australia. To apply for this visa, you need to either get a nomination from a state or a sponsorship from any eligible family member living in Australia. The updated processing times are given as follows. - State/ Territory Nomination: It will take around 7 months to process 75% of the applications and around 9 months to process 90% of the applications
- Family Sponsored: It will take around 10 months to process 75% of the applications and around 11 months to process 90% of the applications.
